ABOUT LAKE KABETOGAMA

Lake Kabetogama is nestled within the heart of Voyageurs National Park, which is near the Canada border, in Minnesota. It’s nearly 26,000 acres affords visitors an opportunity to experience Mother Nature at it’s finest, whether you’re fishing, hiking, or exploring. Kabetogama is linked with a chain of lakes, including Namakan, SandPoint, Crane and Rainy.

With hundreds of islands, this glacier lake provides fertile waters for walleye, sauger, northern pike, jumbo perch, smallmouth and the elusive crappie. The lake features rock structure, reefs, weed beds and sandbars for fishing.

While you’re here you may see moose, deer, timber wolves, eagles, fox, martins, bobcats, black bear and a host of other wildlife.

Visit the Ellsworth Rock Gardens - the garden’s creator and a self-taught artist, Jack Ellsworth, used natural elements of the native northern Minnesota landscape as his artistic media, creating an original and distinctive art environment on the north shore of the lake.

Another destination is Kettle Falls, a historic hotel built in the early 1900s, that is also accessible by boat only. It also has a restaurant and a unique bar. This is where the portage is for Rainy Lake. You can also hike to the dam where Hamm’s Beer obtained it’s beautiful advertising.

One of the park’s attractions is the gorgeous night sky. Thanks to the limited number of cabins and resorts on the lake, the majority of Kabetogama is wilderness and provides the perfect setting for star gazing and witnessing the northern lights. Voyageurs National Park was recently certified as a Night Sky destination. Enjoy the peacefulness and tranquility of Lake Kabetogama.
